How Voting Works
The mechanics of staking and voting in Conviction Voting
Find a program in voting, review submissions, stake tokens on your predictions, wait for settlement. Here's the process.
Before You Vote
You need a compatible wallet connected (MetaMask/Coinbase for EVM chains, Phantom/Backpack for Solana) with enough of the program's voting token to stake.
Casting a Vote
- Find a program in voting - Browse incented.co/explore and filter by "Voting" status
- Review applications - Click the Applications tab and evaluate each submission. Does the project solve a real problem? Is the budget realistic? Does the contributor have relevant experience?
- Open an application and click Vote
- Choose FOR or AGAINST - FOR means it should win, AGAINST means it shouldn't
- Set your stake - More stake = stronger conviction. Match it to your confidence.
- Confirm the transaction - Your tokens are transferred to the voting contract and locked until settlement
You're not just voting your preference. You're expressing one of two thigs. 1. Your expertise, or 2. your desire of the existence of whatever you are voting on.
Updating Your Vote
Change direction: Return to the application, click "Update Vote", select your new direction. Your stake stays the same, only the direction changes. Your latest direction is what counts at settlement.
Add more stake: Vote again on the same submission. Additional tokens add to your existing stake.
You cannot reduce stake or withdraw votes. Once staked, tokens are locked until settlement. Only stake what you're willing to have locked.
Voting on Multiple Submissions
You can vote on as many submissions as you want in the same program. Diversifying across submissions reduces your risk if any single prediction is wrong.
What Happens After
When voting ends, settlement runs (daily at midnight UTC). It calculates net votes for each submission, determines winners, classifies each vote as correct or incorrect, and creates payout transactions.
Common Issues
"Wallet incompatible" - Your wallet type doesn't match the chain. Use MetaMask for EVM programs, Phantom for Solana.
"Insufficient balance" - You don't have enough voting tokens. Acquire more or reduce your stake.
"Voting period ended" - Deadline passed. Wait for the next cycle or find another program.
